Somewhere between discussing transactional writing, Macbeth, revision plans, and – on this occasion – football results, students often become human beings rather than exam candidates (or, just as bad, ‘customers‘).

They begin to feel that sessions are conversations, not lectures.

I suspect that’s when most of the important work happens.
